Dovecot stopped working - pop3 problems

So dovecot stop working and I saw this in the logs:

Feb 28 22:51:58 systemd[1]: Stopping Dovecot IMAP/POP3 email server...
Feb 28 22:51:58 dovecot[1331]: master: Warning: Killed with signal 15 (by pid=23467 uid=0 code=kill)

Mar 01 04:45:31 systemd[1]: Starting Dovecot IMAP/POP3 email server...

Mar 01 04:45:31 systemd[1]: Failed to start Dovecot IMAP/POP3 email server.

Then this:

Mar 1 04:07:00 mydomain dovecot: lda(admin@mydomain)<39723><>: Error: auth-master: userdb lookup(admin@mydomain): connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-master) failed: Connection refused
Mar 1 04:07:00 mydomain dovecot: lda: Fatal: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information.
Mar 1 04:45:31 mydomain dovecot: master: Fatal: service(pop3) access(/usr/lib/dovecot/pop3) failed: No such file or directory

So I disabled POP3 in the new interface and it started working again, what could it be? I would like to use POP3.

It happened after deleting 3 users from my server not sure if it has something to do…
Despite this tiny problem very now and then, I am very thankful for yunohost! It’s amazing!

Same problem here - though you gave me the hint how get my Mails accessible again and I don’t need pop.

Though it’s not the first time anything changes and leaves me with some stressful hours. Thanks yunohost anyway!! I’ll continue to pay for such a complex project.

Same problem here.

I thought I was, maybe, the culprit, as the fiber installer passed today, so, things needed to be modified on my router. But after those modifications, dovecot is still down.

Could also be because of today’s update ? Yunohost went from v11.1.11.1 to v11.1.12.1 I believe…

PS: could it also be the reason why I have 2 ports, 53 and 993 “unreachable” (they are OK on my router) ?

I had the problem before already.

Port 993 was unreachable in my case too, after switching off Pop it was okay again.

Since last update i had this problem to.
A simple apt install dovecot-pop3d solved the problem.

Ah, thanks !

It was the first step. Duh, no, it was the second step !

  1. I installed dovecot-pop3d, then tried to restart dovecot service → same error, rebooted the server → same error. I checked the journal and saw that the folder /usr/lib/dovecot/pop3 was missing, so I created it → same error !
  2. But after I created that folder, I reinstalled dovecot-pop3d, restarted the service and voilĂ  !, finally working

Strangely enough, after that, the folder has disappeared, but there are now pop3/pop3login things in /usr/lib/dovecot.
