I’ve been a happy user of yunohost for years, also teaching it to other people.
There are just a few weak points in yunohost, one of them i think it’s the lack of clear ‘‘official’’ support for some apps.
Now that we are in the middle of a decentralization wave, i’d like to know that the yuno team is supporting and mantaining yuno package for some of the performant activitypub and matrix servers:
mitra social
gotosocial
lemmy
synapse (they are going to rewrite stuff in rust, so it’s gonna get better)
Basically I’d like to be able to host any of the performant socials without worrying too much about breaking stuff. I know that Yuno is not supposed to be ‘‘production grade’’ tech, and i’m fine with that. But, for example, breaking nextcloud is not that much of an issue cause having a backup of the files is the important aspect for a recovery. Breaking one of the activitypub stuff could result in losing the whole social graph if being unable to restore it…
So ye, are there (non mastodon) social packages we can rely on for our publications?
If something is not clear let me know, I’m european like most of you, english is not my main language
I get it, don’t worry, I’m not asking for a bug free experience :3
Just that if I build a community on one of those and then turns out that the package was not made or cured by the team, it can easily stop getting updated and slowly rot to hell lol
Do you maintain any between Mitra, Lemmy or Synapse? e_e
The short reply to your question:
No one will guaranty you anything about how long an app will be maintained. That being said, you should engage to maintain or help maintaining the package your want to use. (I am maintaining few of the apps installed on my server, so, if things go wrong, I know who to blame). Yes I know, it’s a bit more involving but it is the cost of self-hosting
Hi there,
I’ve been trying to maintain a YunoHost package for Streams for a year. A few weeks ago I also began working on a package for Mitra.
I’m not a trained coder, so sometimes I do silly stuff. But I did not break anything so far.
I’d like to help fix broken packages (i.e. today we hav Hubzilla, Pleroma, Firefish) but don’t always have spare time for that.
I’ve seen on the mitra app GitHub that you want to test other architectures and I might need mitra for arm so… How do I force install it while the package says I cannot install on arm?
The build can take some time. Especially if you’re installing Mitra on a tiny machine. Best thing I’d recommend is to be patient and wait. Even if it could take a few dozen minutes.
