I want to install apps on another drive. I’m going to describe what I plan on trying to see if anyone has any suggestions or has tried this.
Hosting: Local only Raspberry Pi
Goal: add an external drive to cut down on SD read/writes and offer more space
Plan:
Using a USB to SSD (off shelf stuff I have)
I will plug the drive in and mount it as /var/www use fstab to automatically mount the drive after reboot etc.
I have running apps so I have not decided exactly how I will make the migration; I may need to stop some YUNHOST or other app services.
Has anyone already done this?
As I’ve been digging into this planned action, I realize it is not nearly as simple as I was thinking. Apps get installed in different places; databases also go to other places.
I did notice a new section in my settings under tools called “Hard Drives” and while searching for information about that found a page that I’m not sure how I missed previously: Adding an external storage to your server | Yunohost
It looks like this page solves all the issues, but I’m going to give it a shot and report back here if I find any problems that way if anyone else searching for the same kind of information comes across this post, they will be able to find the External_Storage page.
