No SSH login possible because $user is not in AllowGroup ... but they are?!

What type of hardware are you using: VPS bought online
What YunoHost version are you running: 12.1.15.1
How are you able to access your server: The webadmin
Other(?)
Are you in a special context or did you perform specific tweaking on your YunoHost instance ?: server’s a bit shot, can’t boot from latest kernel.

Describe your issue

So I’ve been having this problem for a while now: I can’t login to my server using the designated admin and ssh user timon. The webadmin interface says timon is in both groups. I’ve regen-ed ssh conf using the yunohost CLI via the VNC terminal that comes with my hoster Netcup. I’ve restarted the server and ssh, separately.

I’ve made sure I type the password correctly and I’ve reset the ssh port to 22 for now. Still, I can’t log in: permission denied. I actually intentionally mistyped the password once in order to catch it in the logs (see below).

Password auth is active according to both the webadmin and the yunohost CLI.

What am I missing?

Hmmm this may look like a situation where user exists both as a regular unix user, and also as a LDAP user …

Can you check that grep timon /etc/passwd doesn’t return anything ?

Hi Aleks, thanks for your help. Unfortunately, in the meantime the server has melted down completely so I can’t check anything about this particular problem anymore. I’m spinning up a new one to restore my thankfully recent-ish backup

That should also solve my SSH problem
