Move the yunohost install to a new server

Hi everyone,

I’m a bit in a similar situation as the person in this post: A way to move an entire Yunohost to a new server - #11 by Ash3T1

I have my current yunohost server, on an old broken laptop (2013) and i’m planning to move this server to a newer broken laptop (2020)…

I thought of two ways to do so. Either using dd, to create an iso file on an external drive, then boot the newer laptop using an usb key, and dd this iso on the internal hard drive. Then I’ll resize the partitions.

Or… I can use the backups, install yunohost on the new server and install the apps through the backups.

What do you think would be the best? Do you have other suggestions?

This is the YunoHost way, and IMHO the best way. Depends on the size of the backup though, but you can still make multiple ones (one for the system, to be restored first, then maybe separate ones for your largest apps).

Ok, thanks. And regarding the upgrade to Debian 12, should i do it before or after restoring the backups ?

I would say after.

Thanks. Anyway, i’ll try the update on the new server before actually do the move.
