Happy wednesday. I’ve gotten myself in a bit of a quandary.
I followed this article on how to move a directory in this case WordPress to a 20 gig volume I have on my linode. I have not dealt wiht simlinks since about 2018 or so when I was on mac os. I know I did at least set the simlink up correctly. smile Here is what i did
- I moved the WordPress directory from /var/www to the new volume I attached to my linode.
- I then created the simlink from that to /var/www so it could access on this secondary storage. that tworked fine.
- Now came the kicker. I thought I had to modify permissions so that users could access the WordPress site. I know I broke that as when I try and go to the WordPress admin panel I get a file not found error, and when I access the regular WordPress site I get a permissions error. I feel I’m on the right track, however I’m not seeing where I messed up, perhaps because I’m way too close to the problem if that makes sense.
I did try rebooting just to see if that would work, sadly not this time.
I can reinstall from the ground up, WordPress that is, as this is a brand new site I’m setting up, so I can have a fresh crack at this. I think where I got lost is the final step the “changing permissions maybe,” part. I tried changing the owner to me as I’m the admin, not a good idea and chmod got me nowhere. I feel I’m close, I can almost taste the solution. I feel I’m overthinking this puzzle however. I wish I could find a way to do this via the web UI, oh well.
You all have been very helpful and patient wiht me so far, and for that, I thank you.
