Changing the main domain

Hello,

I have a domain, say example.com, and this is the main domain (in the sense defined by Yunohost). Now I would like example.com to be the front page of my website and not the webportal. So I thought about changing the main domain to admin.example.com.
I would like to have more information about what this change could break with my current configuration, knowing that I host my mail server on example.com. I don’t use XMPP on that server. Yunohost version is 11.2.
I have read that page about the main domains (How is used the main domain | Yunohost Documentation), but I’m not sure what will result from this operation.
I guess the ssh host will change, but I’m not sure what I need to do to keep my email server work properly.

Thanks!

I’m not sure why you think you need to change the main domain to have example.com be your “front page” … if you mean that you want some sort of website on example.com, just install the corresponding app (such as my_webapp or other) at the root of example.com … or install it in a subpath (eg example.com/path) then define it as “the default app”

It sounds like a better idea indeed.
Thanks for that

I created a subdomain like yuno.mymaindomain.com. I redirected my main domain to my wordpress website and made the one starting with yuno the default in the yunohost settings. I also connected the RDNS setting from my domain provider to the subdomain starting with yuno.

Dude, this is my first website/server and I messed everything up. I’ve been trying to fix things for two days now. If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do (and how to do what I want to do correctly), I’d love to hear them.

Hi yaskinov,

I’m sorry to hear that. I was afraid of messing everything up by doing this and that’s why I asked on the forum before. This is also the first time I administrate a website and I don’t want to break things because I rely on it for many things.

First question: do you have a backup? From what I heard from seasoned administrators, that’s one of the most important things, so that when everything goes wrong you can recover with not so much damages.

Anyway, I think the information provided here are not sufficient to get help from other users. Maybe you start a new thread under the support category and follow the template provided.
And to get help you will need to give more information about your problems, what you have done, what the state of your server is, etc.

I had just started using Yunohost and there was no significant throughput on the server. I learned that I needed to take a backup.
