Using Yunohost happily for years, but have never bothered messing with the built in email. I’ve always heard that hosting your own email is a pain and rarely worth it. Recently though, I thought I’d look into it with the idea that I could configure Yunohost to send notifications via my webmail via SMTP. Hey, printers can do it! I was unable to figure out how to do it. Part of the problem seems to be that I cannot fully replace Yunohost’s internal mail system. I figured out how to check the mail queue and there were like 150 emails (i have long-ago disabled dovecot since I didn’t need it). I reenabled dovecot and cleared the queue, but it really made me wonder: what is the point of the system generating email notifications if there is nowhere to read them?? Like, shouldn’t the webadmin include a mailbox or message center? How would I even know the system was generating emails? Sorry for the rant. I do really appreciate Yunohost. The email integration just seems esoteric compared to how easy everything else is.

You can install any webmail client (like Rouncube or SnappyMail) from the catalog or straight up set your desktop client to read main YNH generates.

There’s nothing magical about built-in, it acts just like your external mail provider would do.

Ok, I finally got into snappymail. I had over 30k emails in there lol. I feel like yunohost should come with an email client installed and configured if the system is going to come configured to generate so many emails.

No need for a web app. You can use thunderbird or any email client on desktop or mobile.
