Upgrade RAM in my server (x86 PC)

Hello,

My YunoHost server

Hardware: PC @ home (Igel thin client H830C with 4 GB RAM & 2 TB SSD consuming only 6 W without every noise ;-))

YunoHost version: 11.2.3 (stable)
I have access to my server : Through SSH | through the webadmin | direct access via keyboard / screen |

Description of my issue

I got a 8 GB RAM module for my thin client.
the hardware upgrade will be the easiest part to do. But what do I have to / should I change in younohost?

Thanks in advance
Marte

J’ai acheté un module de RAM de 8 Go pour mon thin client.
La mise à jour du matériel sera la partie la plus facile à faire. Mais que dois-je / devrais-je changer dans younohost ?

Merci d’avance
Marte

Supposedly nothing, just power off the computer, add the RAM, reboot, done

and the new RAM will then be used in the right way? There are a few settings around that should be depending with available RAM. Which of them should I care about?

Marte

Don’t know what you mean … there is no “right way” or “wrong way” the RAM is used … it’s either used or it isn’t … Just poweroff, plug ram in, power on (of course all this assuming the RAM is compatible with your hardware etc, but it’s not a YunoHost question, YunoHost doesn’t handle low-level details like this)

I have no idea which settings would depend on available RAM …

I remember some settings in PHP memory limit. Is this outdated knowledge (only half-knowledge

Yes there are some PHP settings that indirectly relates to RAM usage, but that has basically nothing to do with the computer using the new RAM or not … Or you didnt ask your question appropriately, idk, from your previous messages:

We don’t know what you mean by “the right way” …

Quite simple: Are there any settings to change if I change the installed RAM from 4 GB to 8GB? There are few possibilities in my mind:

  1. Well there will nothing negative be without any change. I hoe so
  2. There will be no positive benefit f additionally RAM without any change of any settings. Isn’t it?
  3. More RAM will be recognized by the system and all is tuned the right way

I just want to know how to upgrade the right way.

Marte

Yes : 3. More RAM will be recognized by the system and be used.

Then “all is tuned the right way” depends of what you mean by “tuned the right way”. This part is not “simple”, we can’t magically guess what you mean. “Tuning” implies some specific usage, which you do not describe.

Hi Aleks,

that is simple: the only and main use is nextcloud as it was installed by default. Later this or next year I plan to transfer a own domain to this server and then may be I try homematic on it. But for now I only need nextcloud for me, my family and a few friends.
