Ip by using PPPOE

My YunoHost server

Hardware: Beelink U59
YunoHost version: 4.3.2.2 (stable)
**I have access to my server : Through SSH & through the webadmin & direct access via keyboard / screen
Are you in a special context or did you perform some particular tweaking on your YunoHost instance ? : yes, runing backports package because my GPU is not available with Debian 10, so I upgraded kernel of linux in 5.X Backports and forced it in the grub to launch the GPU pilots.

Description of my issue

I am trying to configure my server with a PPPOE Fixed adress. So my provider give me a user ID and password and I configured on Debian 10 the ppp connection. Here is what I get :

As you can see, in 9, we can fid my ppp connection. I woudlike that Yunohost take this connection and not the local ip adresse wich is not accessible from outside

Is there a configuration in Yunohost or in Debian to do so ? Thanks in advance.

Description du problĂšme

Merci d’avance.

Hi Benjii,

Welcome to the forums!

2: enp2s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP group default qlen 1000
inet 10.92.20.139/19 brd 10.92.31.255 scope global dynamic noprefixroute enp2s0
9: ppp0: <POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1492 qdisc pfifo_fast state UNKNOWN group default qlen 3
inet 195.88.181.6 peer 195.85.248.252/32 scope global ppp0

What do you mean with ‘take’? I used to have a public IP and a local IP on a Yunohost, and I could reach the server on both:

  • The admin interface or SSH on internal/external IP
  • The website only on external IP, because that was configured in DNS

Diagnosis would sometimes mix things up, and state the wrong address with a warning.

When you set up your DNS to point to 195.88.181.6, do you not see your Yunohost when visiting the address?

Hi @wbk,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

No justly, this is my problem. When you are typping this IP adresse, there is nothing on it
 (even before configuring DNS).

Yunohost for now is taking this address : 85.118.37.109, which is the VPN address. ANd the local one on the network : 10.92.20.139.

So I woudlike by default that the address is 195.88.181.6, on the computer and therefore on Yunohost.

Thanks in advance,

Have you remove some part of your ip a command ? You speak about “85.118.37.109, which is the VPN address” i don’t see this ip in the result of the command.

If you speak about an openvpn (like with vpnclient), this vpn probably change your default route.

The command ip route could be useful in your case.

You can change the default route to make all the network packets except the one destinated to your routeur, to go through your ppp interface.

Problem is fixed here ! Thanks to all :slightly_smiling_face:
